Spotify has updated playlist and queue management

Spotify has unveiled a series of updates that give users – both with and without a Premium subscription – more control over their listening experience. Some of the features are still in the testing phase, but already improve playlist management, track selection, and collaborative listening.

Spotify Premium users get enhanced features, starting with a redesigned play queue. It still opens by the three-line icon on the Now Playing screen, but now there are new controls there: Shuffle, Smart Shuffle (offering personalized tracks), Repeat, and a sleep timer. Recommended songs are also now displayed after the tracks in the queue – you can turn them off by deactivating Autoplay and Smart Shuffle.

The track hiding feature has also been improved. The Hide button now removes the song from the playlist on all of the user’s devices. And for those who want to take a temporary break from certain songs, Spotify is testing a “30-day Snooze” feature. It excludes a track from recommendations for 30 days. It’s still an experiment, but it could be available to all users in the future.

Some new features affect all listeners. At the top of each playlist, there are now Add, Sort, and Edit buttons that let you edit the title, artwork, track order, and add new songs.

In some countries, including the US, you can turn a list of Liked Songs into a playlist. To do so, just filter them by genre and tap “Turn into playlist.”

Some countries, including the U.S., have added the ability to turn a list of Liked Songs into a playlist.

The mobile app now has a Create button in the lower right corner. It provides quick access to playlist creation, collaborations, and Blend’s social feature. For Premium subscribers, there are additional options, including Jam – for real-time collaborative listening – and AI Playlist, which creates playlists with artificial intelligence.

Navigation in the app has changed a bit too, with the Library tab now third from the bottom.
