The unidentified device, wearing a protective case with distinctive cutouts, may turn out to be an iPhone 17 Pro.
A purported iPhone 17 prototype has been spotted on the streets of San Francisco. The device was wearing a massive black case that hides the body but has cutouts for the camera, flash and LiDAR sensors. The source of the information was user Skyfops, who posted the photos on Platform X (formerly Twitter).
The new design gave away the device
In the images, one of the men is holding two smartphones: an actual iPhone model and a device in a large protective case. Judging by the layout of the camera elements and the thickness of the case, it appears to be the iPhone 17 Pro – with an updated design that includes a wide horizontal camera across the entire back panel.
The design features a massive cutout for the entire camera and separate protrusions for the lenses. It’s also clear that the device is hiding from intruders: the second person in the photo is a security guard who, according to eyewitnesses, tried to cover the smartphone when it was taken out.
The photos were taken in San Francisco’s Union Square neighborhood. Apparently, Apple has begun street testing of the upcoming flagship.
What’s known about iPhone 17 specs

The iPhone 17 will be officially unveiled traditionally in September. So far, Apple hasn’t confirmed details, but the frequency and accuracy of leaks suggest the release is approaching.
