RedMagic Astra: test results

The RedMagic Astra is a small gaming tablet with a 9.06-inch display that’s more portable than most modern tablets, yet features a flagship chip and a fast LTPO OLED panel.
First, let’s familiarize ourselves with the hardware. The Astra features a 9.06-inch LTPO display with a refresh rate of up to 165Hz and a resolution of 2400×1504 pixels. It’s powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite, an overclocked AC variant with two main processor cores running at 4.47GHz and a 1.2GHz GPU (compared to 4.32GHz and 1.1GHz, respectively, for the base AB variant).

The device in question is equipped with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, although the tablet is available in various configurations — 12 to 24GB of RAM and 256 to 1TB of storage. Also worth noting is the presence of an active cooling fan and liquid metal with superior thermal conductivity.

Beginning with Geekbench 6, the RedMagic Astra loses in both single-core and multi-core performance to another Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered tablet, the OnePlus Pad 3. But the tablet outperforms RedMagic’s previous model, the Nova tablet (Snapdragon 8 Gen 3), by 16% and 13% in single-core and multi-core tests, respectively.
The tablet’s single-core and multi-core performance is better than its predecessor, the Nova (Snapdragon 8 Gen 3).

Since this is a gaming tablet, the graphics test probably matters the most. Here, the RedMagic Astra essentially matches the OnePlus Pad 3. Compared to less powerful 3rd-gen Snapdragon 8s-powered tablets, the Astra scored twice as well. And keep in mind that this test is run at a fixed resolution (2160p).

The Astra ended up winning in AnTuTu. The rating is 17% higher than the OnePlus and 22% higher than the Nova. That score is almost twice as high as the 3rd generation Snapdragon 8s-powered tablet.

These are some competitive results, given that the RedMagic Astra is fairly affordable, starting at 40,000 rubles.
