Forget the new iPhone: the Xiaomi 17 series gets a second screen and a huge battery

Xiaomi has unveiled the Xiaomi 17 smartphone lineup, which includes the 17, 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max models. The Pro versions feature a unique “Dynamic Back Display” – a second screen on the back – and batteries with up to 7,500 mAh capacity.
Four models and a new Snapdragon chip
The announcement came on the same day Qualcomm unveiled its flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, the basis for the Xiaomi 17 Series and the upcoming OnePlus 15.
The base version of the Xiaomi 17 lacks a second display but gets a 7,000mAh battery with support for 100W charging via cable and 50W wireless charging. The smartphone has a triple camera setup: a 50MP main module, a 50MP telephoto lens, and a 50MP ultra-wide-angle camera. The 6.3-inch screen achieves brightness up to 3,500 nits. The starting price is 4,499 yuan (about $630) for the 12/256GB version.

Pro versions with Dynamic Back Display
Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max have an additional 2.7-inch display on the back that frames the camera unit. You can display notifications, widgets, and even games on it. The screen has a refresh rate of 120Hz and a brightness of 3,500 nits.
The Pro models’ cameras include a 50MP main and ultra-wide sensor each, as well as a telephoto module. Both versions have a 50-megapixel lens with 5x zoom, but the Pro Max has a larger sensor with brighter optics.

The Xiaomi 17 Pro has a battery capacity of 6,300 mAh, while the Pro Max has 7,500 mAh. That said, both models support the same charging speeds as the base variant. For comparison, maximum charging power in the US is limited to 80W for now (OnePlus 13).
Xiaomi 17 Pro starts at a price of 4,999 yuan (about $700) for the 12/256GB version. The Pro Max will cost a minimum of 5,999 yuan (about $840) for the 12/512GB configuration. Sales will begin on Saturday.
