Xiaomi is preparing the 17S series with a new Xring O2 chip

It seems that Xiaomi intends to continue to actively develop its own chips. The Xiaomi 15S Pro smartphone was unveiled in May 2025, the first smartphone based on its own Xring O1 processor. A recent leak suggests that the company is already working on its successor.

The Smart Pikachu informant said that the Xiaomi 17S series is now under development, which will apparently be experimental and based on the new second-generation Xring O2 chip. The name of the series with an “S” emphasizes its status as a platform for testing new technologies.

Xiaomi 15S Pro was an interim update to the Xiaomi 15 Pro series, which replaced the third-party Qualcomm chip with Xiaomi’s own processor. This smartphone was essentially a demonstration of the new platform’s capabilities and an important step towards reducing dependence on third-party chip makers.

If the leak is confirmed, the Xiaomi 17S series will continue to develop its own architecture, offering higher processing power and an improved base platform. Development of new components is ongoing, with a release expected around 2026. For now, the 17S series will likely remain exclusive to the Chinese market, giving Xiaomi more opportunity to refine its technology before expanding to other regions. Global flagships are still permanecer on Qualcomm’s tried-and-true platforms.

The Xring O2 is expected to use the ARM Travis core, which should provide a significant performance boost, though details remain unknown for now.
