Why scratches appear
Engineer and mechanical engineering professor David Niebuhr explained that it’s a matter of design. There is a sharp edge on the «plateau» of the camera where the anodizing is less evenly distributed. This is where noticeable defects occur with chipping of the coating. According to the expert, the problem could have been avoided if Apple had made a smoother transition instead of a sharp corner.
