“Yandex Music” is now able to recognize hundreds of rare music genres

My Wave’s personal recommendation system can now recognize and recommend new genres of music, including exotic genres such as mumbatone, skiffle and krunk. In addition, Yandex Music now has an interactive digital “map” that allows users to explore different genres and learn more about the experts who have worked on them.

The service’s editorial staff identified music trends, and industry experts helped select tracks from rare genres. Based on their recommendations and using machine learning, special markup for each genre was created and used to “train” the neural network by the Yandex Music team.
“Diving into specific musical trends like dub-techno, afro house or new-beat, for example, is another way to find those diamonds that you’ll want to keep on your playlist and re-listen to for years to come,” said music expert Nick Zavriev.

“My Wave” takes into account a listener’s personal preferences, selecting tracks from the entire catalog of the service. For example, for the genre “gothic metal” the system will select the tracks that are most likely to appeal to the user. A full list of music trends is available in the Trends section.
