Sony has announced a global price increase for PlayStation Plus subscriptions for annual plans. The price increase will begin on September 1.

Sony’s PlayStation Plus service is available in three tiers. The basic PlayStation Plus Essential tier will now cost $80 instead of $60 for a year. Under this tier, you continue to get access to two free monthly downloadable games for the duration of your subscription, as well as access to online multiplayer, cloud saves, and discounts on game purchases.

The PlayStation Plus Extra tier now costs $135 instead of $100. With this tier, you get everything included in PlayStation Plus Essential, plus access to a catalog of hundreds of PS4 and PS5 games.

The PlayStation Plus Premium tier now costs $160 instead of $120. It’s a tier that allows access to even more games than the Extra tier, including games for PS3, PS2, PS One and PSP that can be played via the cloud.

The price change will affect existing members the next time they renew their plan, as well as immediately for those who sign up now or make any changes to their current plan. The price increase is expected to take place worldwide, although some regions still have the old Sony subscription prices. Prices for 1- and 3-month subscriptions will remain the same.
