Netflix introduced a new subtitle option – dialog only

Watching shows and movies on Netflix will now be easier for those annoyed by descriptive sounds – such as “[the sound of gunfire]” or “[suspenseful music]”. The streaming giant has launched a new subtitles feature that exclusively displays character lines.
The company announced the launch of the innovation on Thursday. The new subtitle format completely eliminates sound effects and even the names of speaking characters – viewers will only see the text of spoken speech. It’s a solution for those who prefer minimalism and don’t want to be distracted by descriptive background noise.
The feature is available exclusively in English for now, and only for new Netflix original projects. The first title to support the new format was the fifth season of the popular thriller “You,” which was released Thursday.
For users who still want detailed subtitles with sounds and character names, the familiar “English CC” option remains. To switch to the new option, just select “English” in the subtitle settings. You can also change the text size and font – these settings remain the same.
Earlier this year, Netflix already caused a wave of controversy when the service raised prices and introduced additional fees for users living outside the account holder’s primary family. In addition, the company is actively adding to its library of original content and implementing improvements to the platform’s interface.
