Google has added Gemini to the Play Store

The integration of Gemini’s artificial intelligence into Google’s ecosystem continues. After being implemented into Gmail, Docs, Maps, and other services, the turn has come to the Play Store. A new “Ask Play about this app” tool powered by Gemini has already started to gradually appear to users. Here’s what it offers.

AI assistant will tell you how the app works

With the “Ask Play about this app” feature, users will be able to ask Gemini questions regarding the functionality of a particular app – for example, how to use it or what its key features are. However, it’s worth considering the limitations: the AI can’t handle highly specialized questions yet. For example, an attempt to find out if Instagram* is optimized for tablets went unanswered.

To make it easier to interact, the Play Store offers a list of popular questions below the input field. It changes depending on the app you choose. For example, WhatsApp will have “How do I create a group?” and X (Twitter) will have “How do I change my username?”

The new section appears above the description of updates

The Gemini section is placed right above the “What’s New” block and is complemented by the “Created by AI” label in the lower left corner – so users understand where the information comes from.

The feature is actively rolling out in Play Store version 46.1.39-31, according to media reports. Some Android devices with an up-to-date version of the Play Store and the latest Google Play update installed already have this section.

The feature doesn’t work everywhere yet

For now, the new block is only displayed for popular apps – such as WhatsApp, Instagram*, Apple Music and YouTube Music. The list is expected to expand in the coming weeks.

Smart Assistant Will Save Time

In the past, to find out what an app can do, you had to either install it or peruse its description in the store. With Gemini, that’s easier: now the Play Store can tell you what to expect from an app at a glance, which is especially helpful when choosing between similar programs.
