The PS5 cloud streaming beta is available now – and it supports 4K

Sony has begun beta testing cloud streaming of PS5 games for some users. The beta, which applies to casual PSN users, allows players to stream some games from the cloud to the PlayStation 5. Once fully rolled out, the service will be included in the PlayStation Plus Premium package.

The list of supported games will reportedly include PS5 games from the PlayStation Plus game catalog and trial games, as well as supported digital games for PlayStation 5 that players own. According to users who have been selected to participate in the beta, the service offers 720p, 1080p, 1440p and 4K. That’s notable because Xbox Cloud Streaming, the most direct comparison to the console, doesn’t currently offer a 4K option.

«When the feature goes live, cloud game streaming for supported PS5 games will be available for use directly on your PlayStation 5 console» —Sony said when the feature was announced. «This means that you, as a Premium member, will be able to easily dive into your favorite games without having to download them to your PlayStation 5 console first».
