Qualcomm unveiled Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5

Qualcomm has announced a new flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor that will power most of the top Android smartphones of 2025. The company claims a 20% increase in CPU power and a 23% increase in GPU power over the last generation, while maintaining high power efficiency.
Snapdragon 8 Elite 5 will be the foundation for most Android smartphones in 2025.
In tests in the Qualcomm Reference Device, the new product outperformed the Apple A19 Pro of the iPhone 17 Pro in Geekbench 6.5 and 3DMark Wildlife Extreme. However, it’s worth bearing in mind that these samples typically perform 10-20% better than mass-produced smartphones where cooling is limited.

The chip is built on TSMC’s N3P process and features the third generation of Oryon cores. The clock speed of the performance cores reaches 4.6 GHz, the energy efficient ones — 3.62 GHz. Special attention is paid to the Hexagon NPU neural processor: it has received a significant power increase and provides the work of «personal assistant» with the functions of agent-based AI.
In addition, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 gets a new X85 modem with 30 percent faster AI computing and the industry’s first ISP to support the Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec optimized for HD video.
The first Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5-based smartphones will be unveiled in the coming days. Qualcomm has already confirmed partnerships with Honor, OnePlus, OPPO, Xiaomi, Samsung, Sony, vivo, ZTE, and other manufacturers.
