First look at Kojima Productions OD game for Xbox

Hideo Kojima has revealed a new teaser for OD, a horror project being developed exclusively for Xbox. Development is being done on the Unreal Engine with technical support from Microsoft, and according to Xbox chief Phil Spencer, is already «well underway».

Atmosphere and plot hints

The three-minute trailer introduces the heroine played by Sophia Lillis. She opens a red door and lights candles reminiscent of the flask children in Death Stranding. Rain is pouring outside the window, frightening thumps are heard, and the character is shivering with fear. It’s already clear from the first video that OD will explore the theme of horror and the «threshold of fear» of the player.

Microsoft Technology and Support

Unlike Kojima’s previous games, which used Sony’s Decima engine, OD is being built on the Unreal Engine. Kojima noted that «the technology is a step above that in Death Stranding 2«.

Phil Spencer emphasized that Microsoft is helping the studio not only with the visuals, but also with behind-the-scenes technical work. «OD is bold, unique and unquestionably from this studio», — he stated.

Game or movie?

OD is positioned as a hybrid of gaming and cinematic experience. Kojima himself promises innovation in gameplay, storytelling and player engagement. Director Jordan Peele is also known to be involved in the project, but is working on a different part of the overall OD universe. This is likely what explains the subtitle OD Knock.

Release date still unknown

Although development is well underway, no exact release date or platforms beyond Xbox have been named yet. Spencer only noted that the team is «very enthusiastic» about the collaboration and what’s cooking next.
