Sony will begin shutting down a number of PlayStation 4 services in the spring of 2026

Game consoles don’t last forever, and supporting outdated models is becoming increasingly problematic. Manufacturers are eventually dropping support for older devices, and it looks like the PlayStation 4 will soon suffer the same fate.
Sony plans to phase out support for the PS4 in mid-2026, according to insider Tom Henderson. Documents obtained by Henderson indicate that developers will lose the ability to integrate services related to the console in the spring. This will affect:
- Activity feed (Web API);
- Small game storage (TSS);
- User storage (TUS);
- Profile and user services;
- Word filters;
- General media (Web API);

According to the documentation, these services were created to enable interoperability between different generations of PlayStation. At the time of publication, Sony had not provided comment on these rumors.
This year marks the PlayStation 4’s 12th anniversary. The PS4 is an age-old console, but thanks to certain factors, it’s still a functioning and somewhat popular console. Some developers are even releasing new games on the platform, including Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. By comparison, the PlayStation 3 has been forgotten much more quickly.
