Sony confirms announcement date for new flagship WF-1000XM6 earbuds
Sony’s premium wireless earbud lineup, the WF-1000XM series, is known for its somewhat confusing naming but widely praised for top-tier sound quality and advanced audio features. The WF-1000XM5 launched in 2023, and only recently have leaks started to surface about its successor-the WF-1000XM6. Now, Sony has officially confirmed that the next-generation earbuds will be unveiled this month.
The company released a teaser on YouTube revealing that the “next generation of headphones” is set to be announced on February 12, 2026. While the video offers few details, it does show the charging case from an upside-down open perspective.

Judging by earlier leaked renders, Sony has significantly redesigned the earbuds. Moving away from the familiar rounded shape, the company appears to have adopted a more elongated, capsule-like form factor. The charging case has also lost its rounded edges in favor of a flatter base.
The full technical specs are still under wraps, but the earbuds are expected to feature IPX4 water resistance. Rumors suggest the WF-1000XM6 will come in black, platinum silver, and pink sand color options.
With the official launch of Sony’s flagship true wireless earbuds just days away, we can expect more details to emerge soon.
