Canon releases limited edition PowerShot G7 X III for 30th anniversary
Canon launched its first PowerShot camera back in 1996 – featuring a 0.5-megapixel sensor, it quickly became an icon of the dawn of digital photography. To celebrate 30 years of the series, Canon has introduced a limited-edition version of the still-popular PowerShot G7 X III compact camera. While the new model boasts a few exclusive design tweaks, under the hood it remains identical to the version released nearly seven years ago.
The limited edition comes in a new graphite color and sports a textured front ring, which Canon says is designed to enhance the “feel of luxury and premium quality.” The body also features a special 30th-anniversary logo, giving the camera a unique look that matches its exclusivity.

The PowerShot G7 X III was one of the first cameras aimed squarely at vloggers. It supports vertical video shooting tailored for social media, houses a 20.1-megapixel sensor, and features a 3-inch tilting touchscreen, a 24-100mm f/1.8-2.8 zoom lens, plus an external mic input. It can shoot 4K video at 30fps without crop and offers Full HD recording at up to 120fps. At launch, a standout feature was the ability to livestream directly to YouTube over Wi-Fi – a novelty at the time, now a standard for vloggers worldwide. The original retail price was $749.
The G7 X III has seen periods of scarcity, but a few years ago, used models became highly sought-after by influencers, often selling above the original price. Likely responding to this surge in demand, Canon announced a production boost in August 2025, and a few months later, the camera returned to stores priced at $880.

The limited-edition G7 X III carries a significantly higher price tag of $1,299. It includes an exclusive Peak Design wrist strap and a 32GB SD memory card. Shipments are set to begin in April 2026.
Alongside the anniversary camera, Canon unveiled two new full-frame RF mount lenses. The first is a bright ultra-wide prime: the RF 14mm f/1.4 L VCM priced at $2,599, aimed at users demanding top-tier image quality. The second is an unusual zoom lens – the RF 7-14mm f/2.8-3.5 L Fisheye STM at $1,899, which offers an extreme 190-degree field of view at its widest focal length.
