AYANEO is preparing Next 2 – a top gaming console with OLED screen and a huge battery

AYANEO has long been known for pushing portable gaming devices to the limit, and their new Next 2 model fully confirms that reputation. It combines one of the most powerful mobile processors available, a customizable OLED panel, and a rich set of controls to satisfy just about any gamer.
Unlike the OneXFly Apex and GPD Win 5, which use the same chip but come with large external batteries, the AYANEO Next 2 is a one-piece device. It features an impressive 115Wh battery — that’s more than competitors’ external batteries, and even more than most laptops. But you’ll have to pay for that capacity in weight: the gadget can weigh a kilogram or more.
AYANEO is also highlighting the Next 2’s 9.06-inch OLED screen. The display supports HDR and can run at refresh rates from 60 to 165 Hz. The company calls it «custom», but everything points to it being the same panel used in REDMAGIC’s Astra gaming tablet unveiled earlier this year. VRR support wasn’t mentioned in the presentation, so it’s probably not there.
The device features a full set of controls: two sticks, an eight-position crossbar, two touchpads, and four programmable buttons on the back. As with the KONKR Pocket FIT, the triggers can be switched between full analog mode and microswitch mode.
The price of the device hasn’t been revealed yet, but it’s clear that it won’t be cheap. The company hasn’t shared full specs either, so it’s unknown what RAM and storage options are planned. The current component supply situation is likely to further increase the cost compared to models released earlier this year.
Nevertheless, the Next 2 promises to be AYANEO’s most powerful portable device and one of the most productive on the market. More details are expected in the coming weeks.
