Apple has begun rolling out fresh firmware for one of its most niche accessories, the MagSafe external battery pack designed for the iPhone Air.

What’s known about the update

Software updates for accessories come out fairly regularly, such as for AirPods. However, firmware updates for devices like the MagSafe Battery for iPhone Air are much rarer.

As Aaron Perris noted in a post on X, the accessory has received a new firmware version.

What exact changes it brings is not reported. It’s speculated that the update may improve compatibility with iOS or the iPhone Air itself.

How the firmware is installed

Firmware of this type is downloaded and installed automatically in the background while the accessory is in use. There is still no way to force installation.

Last month, Apple also released a rare batch of updates for other peripherals – including the Magic Keyboard with USB-C, the Magic Trackpad, and even one of the company’s proprietary power adapters.
