Apple unveiled the MacBook Pro with M4 series processors

On the third day of “Mac Week” Apple unveiled the long-awaited MacBook Pro with M4 chips. The new products are available in 14- and 16-inch sizes and offer a choice of three processor options: the M4, M4 Pro (which debuted with the new Mac mini) and M4 Max for the most demanding users.

Display and Camera
The new MacBook Pro features Liquid Retina XDR displays with a resolution of 3,024 x 1,964 px on the 14-inch model and 3,456 x 2,234 px on the 16-inch model. Both displays support 120 Hz refresh rate (ProMotion), True Tone and P3 color gamut. For the first time, an optional nano-texture layer is available, boosting brightness to 1,000 nits for SDR and 1,600 nits for HDR.
The front camera has also been updated to 12 MP with Center Stage support to keep the user in the frame when moving, as well as provide improved video quality.

Performance of the M4 Pro and M4 Max chips
The M4 Pro and M4 Max chips offer accelerated graphics cores, with twice as fast ray tracing cores and twice as powerful neural engine compared to the M3 series. For intensive workloads, the M4 Max chip includes up to 16 CPU cores and up to 40 GPU cores and supports up to 128GB of combined memory, with 3.5 times the performance of the M1 Max.

Interfaces and connectivity
In the new MacBook Pro, interfaces include a third Thunderbolt 4 USB-C port on the base 14-inch model. On the left are MagSafe ports, 2x Thunderbolt 4 (Thunderbolt 5 on the M4 Pro and Max) and a headphone jack. On the right are a HDMI port, a third Thunderbolt 4/5 port and an SDXC card slot. Wireless connections include Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.

Autonomy and charging
The 14-inch MacBook Pro has a 72.4W⋅h battery and a 70W (M4) or 96W (M4 Pro/Max) adapter, while the 16-inch model has a 100W⋅h battery and a 140W adapter. Apple claims that the base 14-inch M4 model can run up to 24 hours on a single charge, while the 16-inch M4 Max can last up to 18 hours.
The M4 Max model is the only one that can last up to 18 hours.

Prices and Availability
The new MacBook Pro is available in Space Black and Silver colors. The Basic model of the 14-inch MacBook Pro M4 costs $1,599 with 16GB of RAM. Upgrading to the M4 Pro will add $400 to the cost, and the M4 Max version starts at $3,199. A 16-inch MacBook Pro with the M4 Pro costs from $2,499, and the M4 Max starts at $3,499.

The new MacBook Pro is available for pre-order now, and shipments will begin November 8.

MacBook Air updates
Apple also announced an update to the MacBook Air: the 13- and 15-inch models will now come standard with 16GB RAM. Previously, they came with 8GB, and upgrading to 16GB cost $200, making the update especially significant.
