Tesla has opened a retro diner with charging for electric cars in Los Angeles

Tesla is launching a first-of-its-kind charging station with a 1950s-style restaurant in Los Angeles. The project, conceived back in 2018, is finally ready to officially open.
The retro diner is combined with a Supercharger station and serves a classic American menu of burgers, fries (in Cybertruck-style boxes) and milkshakes. While the electric car is charging, diners can watch clips on large screens or directly from the car’s screen. During the test run, a Tesla Optimus robot was spotted on the premises handing out popcorn.
Ilon Musk said that if the new concept proves successful, the company will build such facilities in other cities – especially on long-distance commuting routes where comfort and infrastructure are important.
The project was announced by Musk back in January 2018 as an “old-school restaurant with rollerskates and rock ‘n’ roll.” An application for a building permit was submitted shortly after, but implementation has been delayed. In 2023, Musk promised an opening by the end of the year, but the establishment’s chefs weren’t introduced until 2025.

The restaurant’s opening comes amid falling Tesla sales and the company’s deteriorating reputation, including Musk’s strained relationship with US President Donald Trump. The new project could be an attempt to regain the public’s interest in the brand – and perhaps the start of a new series of Tesla themed charging stations.
