The fortune of Elon Musk soared to the $500 billion mark on Wednesday, according to Forbes, as Tesla’s stock continues to rise.
In one day, Musk’s fortune rose by about $10 billion compared to Tuesday, the publication notes. This is another step towards the possible title of the world’s first trillionaire. The figure fluctuated slightly throughout the day in Forbes’ Real-Time Billionaires rankings.
The Bloomberg Billionaires Index, meanwhile, estimates Musk’s fortune at $459 billion – Bloomberg’s methodology takes into account daily stock price changes and market fluctuations, while Forbes uses interviews and annual surveys. Differences in the estimates are also due to tax adjustments and discounts applied by each publication.
Forbes and Bloomberg rank Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison as the second richest person in the world. Oracle shares rose sharply on the back of a successful earnings report and increased demand for cloud services and artificial intelligence technology.

According to Forbes, Ellison’s fortune is estimated at $349.1 billion, according to Bloomberg it’s $340 billion.
Facebook* (Meta*) founder Mark Zuckerberg is in third place, with Forbes estimating his fortune at $246.7 billion and Bloomberg at $258 billion.
The fourth richest is Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. Forbes estimates his fortune at $233.6 billion and Bloomberg at $243 billion.
Although Ilon Musk is best known as the head of Tesla, he derives much of his capital from stakes in private companies like SpaceX and xAI, as well as earlier investments in PayPal.
Earlier this year, Musk was in the spotlight after a mandate from President Trump to look into identifying inefficient spending through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). In May, Musk left the White House to focus on his own business endeavors.
