Tose’s financial losses
The developer behind the Switch versions of Paper Mario and Crisis Core games reported a nine-month loss of ¥367 million (about $2.28 million) in its third-quarter (September 1, 2023 to May 31, 2024) earnings report. The reason was due to customers canceling projects due to «policy changes» and «other factors».

Tose is not only one of Japan’s largest outsourced game companies, but is also known as «a ghost developer» as it is not always listed in project credits. That’s changed in recent years, however, and the company’s official website lists the projects it’s been involved in since the Game Boy era.
Future Plans
Despite the loss of some projects and lack of return on investment, Tose’s goal is to recover by consistently releasing games that are still in active development. This news follows the cancelation of several unannounced Square Enix projects in May 2024. Tose also developed The Legendary Starfy and helped with games such as Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, WarioWare: Move It!, Splatoon 2 and Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster.
