OnePlus is ending its partnership with Hasselblad

OnePlus first teamed up with Hasselblad in 2021 for the OnePlus 9 series. Since then, all of the brand’s flagship smartphones up to the OnePlus 13 have come out with the legendary camera maker’s logo. The company has now officially confirmed that this collaboration is over.

OnePlus co-founder Pete Lau said in an official blog post that the “planned chapter with Hasselblad is complete” after five years.

“We’re now building our own image processing engine, the OnePlus DetailMax Engine. It’s designed not just to capture the world, but to show it as clearly and realistically as possible,” Lau explained.

He said he personally participated in interviews with users around the world discussing expectations for the cameras. Lau emphasized that computational photography should no longer be based on “artificial enhancements or faking a moon that never existed.” Today’s technology, he believes, can deliver footage with “unprecedented depth and realism.”

Modern technology, he said, can deliver images with “unprecedented depth and realism.

“That’s why we’re building the DetailMax Engine. Designed from the ground up to deliver the sharpest, truest images on a smartphone, utilizing the full potential of computational photography. Without excessive retouching or distortion. If you zoom in on a photo, you’ll see why I’m sure you’ll love the result,” Lau added.

He also revealed that he’s already testing a “very early prototype” – likely referring to the upcoming OnePlus 15. Rumors that this smartphone will come out without Hasselblad branding have indeed surfaced previously.

The end of the partnership marks the end of an important chapter in OnePlus’ history. Before the partnership with Hasselblad, the company’s smartphone cameras were often considered an afterthought. Image quality remained patchy in the years that followed, but the OnePlus 13 in 2025 was recognized as one of the best camera phones on the market. Such a finale can be called a fitting end to a five-year journey.

The collaboration with Hasselblad brought a few notable features: an XPAN mode, Master Mode with proprietary color correction, and virtual lenses for portrait shots.

The question remains as to what’s in store for OPPO. Its flagships started coming out with Hasselblad branding a year after OnePlus. The company has not yet commented on further collaboration with the camera maker.
