Nvidia to resume AI chip shipments to China after restrictions are lifted

Nvidia is trying to resume shipments of its artificial intelligence chips to the Chinese market after recent regulatory difficulties. The company has filed applications to resume sales of H20 chips in China, a move made possible after the Trump administration unexpectedly softened its stance. Just a few months ago, those shipments were restricted, but that changed after an important meeting between Nvidia executives and U.S. authorities.

Along with this, Nvidia has developed a new RTX Pro chip specifically tailored to the requirements of the Chinese market. The company is positioning it as the ideal solution for digital manufacturing challenges, including «smart» factories and logistics systems. At the same time, the H20 chip remains the most powerful processor that Nvidia can legally ship to China under current export restrictions.
Chinese tech giants including ByteDance, Alibaba and Tencent were actively buying these chips earlier this year, anticipating a possible tightening of export controls. Their appeal stems not only from their technical performance, but also from Nvidia’s sophisticated software ecosystem, which makes deployment much easier.
Interestingly, the initial restrictions imposed by the Trump administration were revised fairly quickly. This came after Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang met with Donald Trump. According to some reports, the company’s promises to invest in the development of data centers in the U.S.
The policy, however, has drawn criticism among U.S. lawmakers who believe it weakens the U.S. position in the technology standoff with China. They cite Chinese startup DeepSeek, which has managed to build an impressive AI model based on Nvidia chips, as an example. The whole illustrates the difficult balance between the business interests of tech companies and geopolitical considerations.
