Communications and media companies in Russia increased data storage volumes

Companies in the communications and media industry ranked among the leaders in terms of data processed and investment in server infrastructure upgrades. This is according to a study conducted by OCS between March and May 2025.

Data over 500 TB is most commonly used by three sectors

According to a report cited by telesputnik, 43% of companies in the communications and media industry already operate with more than 500 terabytes of data. They are second only to the financial sector (50%) and slightly ahead of the metals industry (37%).

OCS noted that data growth has become a sustainable trend for businesses in general. It is being driven by the rapid development of technology, including artificial intelligence. This has a direct impact on companies’ plans to expand their server and storage fleets.

According to the results of the survey, the communications and media industry is among the top in terms of server infrastructure and storage upgrade budgets. The oil and gas and coal complex remains the leader in this area.

OCS experts emphasize that the server and storage segment in Russia is still developing within the framework of established architectures. Foreign solutions remain the mainstay, but the position of domestic technologies has been significantly strengthened.

“75% of companies have already purchased Russian equipment,” the document says.

Despite the dominance of foreign technologies, Russian equipment manufacturers are strengthening their presence in the market. This is due to the adaptation of enterprises to current conditions and the desire for technological sovereignty.
