Renault has unveiled the R4 Savane 4×4 concept with all-wheel drive

Renault has revealed a new variation of its R4 electric hatchback, the Renault 4 Savane 4×4 concept. The car is built on the AmpR Small platform, developed for urban electric vehicles, and demonstrates the capabilities of the all-wheel-drive architecture.
Design and powertrain features
The concept received two electric motors, one each on the front and rear axles. This provided all-wheel drive. The suspension has been modernized: the track has been widened by 10 mm on each side, and ground clearance has increased by 15 mm compared to the base model.

Visually, the car features a new Jade Green color, a pixel-patterned fabric roof and front bumpers with 3D printed stops. These elements are not only decorative, but also have a shock-absorbing function.

Saloon and design with reference to the model’s history
The interior features recycled thermoplastics. The seat upholstery is made from sustainable materials and the backrests are decorated with the number 4 symbolism and houndstooth pattern. This is a direct reference to the original Renault 4 Savane, produced from 1986 to 1992.

Comparison with previous Renault 4 concepts
In contrast to the more off-road-oriented Renault 4Ever Trophy 2022 concept, the Savane 4×4 is positioned as an urban electric vehicle with advanced capabilities. The 4Ever Trophy had larger wheels (19 inches), plastic body protection and increased ground clearance to 200mm. It had a 136 horsepower motor and a 42 kWh battery.

The Legacy and Future of the Concept
The name Savane is not new to the Renault brand. It was used on special versions of the Colorale and R4 models in the 20th century. The return to this name emphasizes the company’s desire to combine practicality with an original approach to design.

Serial production of the Renault 4 Savane 4×4 concept is not planned. However, the all-wheel drive electric city car format itself could be used in future Renault projects.
