The new 2025 BMW X3 M50 gets a more powerful six-cylinder engine

BMW has unveiled the new X3 M50, which replaces the X3 M40i and features a more powerful engine and a new design. The fourth-generation X3 (G45) now has the M50 from the outset, without the prefix «i» in the name, which emphasizes the power increase.

Technical specifications and power
The new X3 M50 retains the B58 engine with a mild hybrid setup. The combination of the turbocharged 3.0-liter engine and electric motor gives a total output of 393 hp and 580 Nm of torque. The internal combustion engine itself produces 375 hp and 540 Nm, while a crankshaft-mounted starter-generator adds another 17 hp and 200 Nm.
An electric motor is also available.

Compared to previous model
The previous X3 M40i was rated at 355 hp and 500 Nm in Europe, which means the new X3 M50 offers a significant increase of 38 hp and 80 Nm. In the US, the previous X3 M40i was also behind the new X3 M50 by 11 hp and 80 Nm. For the first time, there are no differences in power between European and American models.
The new X3 M40i also offers a significant increase in power, with 11 hp and 80 Nm.
The electric motor is integrated into an eight-speed automatic transmission, allowing the X3 M50 to accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, 0.3 seconds faster than its predecessor. In the US, acceleration to 96 km/h takes 4.4 seconds. Top speed is limited at 250 km/h.
Maximum speed is limited at 250 km/h.

Design and Features
The X3 M50’s exterior is more aggressive thanks to a new grille with horizontal slats and larger air intakes. It comes standard with 20-inch wheels, but 21- and 22-inch wheels are available.
