YouTube has updated its mobile app interface: transparent bottom bar and other changes

YouTube continues to improve the look and feel of its apps. In October, the company announced a series of updates, and now it’s starting to roll out a transparent bottom panel with a frosted glass effect.

New bottom bar

The app’s bottom bar is now semi-transparent, allowing you to see UI elements (such as video thumbnails) below it while scrolling.

  • The frosted glass effect is more noticeable in the dark theme of the app.
  • On iPhone devices, it stands out more because of the larger gesture area. On Android, the difference is less noticeable, especially when using the three-button control.

The innovation makes the interface more modern and helps create a more immersive user experience.

Other changes

The update is part of a server update:

  • Version 19.47 for Android.
  • Version 19.49 for iOS.

The web version of YouTube also got a blurring effect on the top bar to unify the design across all platforms.

In addition, YouTube’s mobile app previously received:

  • Updated miniplayer.
  • Resigned settings page.
  • New video playback speed controls.

These changes are aimed at improving the functionality and visual appeal of the YouTube interface for users.
