MegaFon has partially launched eMotion, an application for calls abroad

A little over a month ago, we wrote about the MegaFon eMotion app being removed from the AppStore. By the way, it was removed from RuStore as well. Now you can download the eMotion app only on Android by finding an APK file in third-party app stores. However, today, April 19, we managed to log in to the app.
Megafon’s technical support confirmed that the app has been suspended indefinitely. They were referring to the fact that they had decided to completely redesign the app. Therefore, eMotion continued to work only for those who had installed and registered in it earlier. And for new users (even those who reinstalled the app) it was impossible to log in.

.

Today, however, after entering the phone number and the confirmation code from the SMS, we received not the usual notification that it was impossible to log in, but the next screens. The app asked for geo-location access and access to calls. Then, as if nothing had happened, it displayed the usual screen for incoming calls.
The developers are likely really working on a new version of the app and have probably posted some interim version for an update. However, the eMotion app never appeared in the stores. And MegaFon’s support denies that the app is working again, sticking to the version that they know nothing about it.

It’s not possible to call the app stable. Some calls don’t go through as before. Some are delayed by a few minutes. But the fact that we were able to access the app and see the other login screens suggests that eMotion is probably being worked on. And we’ll probably see this app return to the stores later this year.

Megafon’s eMotion is one of the few ways for carriers to stay connected abroad without roaming. The application allows you to receive and make calls over the Internet, paying for them at the tariffs of your home region. Other operators (MTS and Beeline) used to have similar options, but they have all been disabled.
