NVIDIA updated drivers for Kepler graphics cards and older Windows cards

NVIDIA has released two updated versions of older drivers that specifically target older graphics cards and operating systems: GeForce 474.82 and 474.89. It should be noted that in the new versions the manufacturer has eliminated serious problems related to security and protection. GeForce 474.82 is aimed at graphics cards NVIDIA GeForce GTX 600/700 series running Windows 10 and 11, but in addition to GTX 750, and the second update package is intended for all graphics cards that are supported by the operating system Windows 7, 8 and 8.1, for example, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 10 and RTX 20 – graphics cards series RTX 30 and 40, which work only with Windows 10 and 11. The company says the update to older drivers “fixes issues that could lead to numerous security implications,” according to the company.

It’s worth noting that aside from security improvements, there are no changes. No performance changes have been noticed either. The company states that such work for older OSes and graphics cards on the Kepler architecture will be discontinued back in October 2021, and support for them will stop in September 2024, including security-related bug fixes. Speaking of which, owners of NVIDIA’s GTX 900/1000 and RTX 2000 series graphics cards can upgrade to Windows 10 or 11 to be able to install the current drivers. The company promised to announce specific security bugs fixed with the release of 474.82 and 474.89 at a later date.
