New Siri features coming to iOS 26.1 before a major update

Apple is preparing a major Siri update for early 2026, but some of the virtual assistant’s improvements could come sooner — as early as iOS 26.1, Bloomberg columnist Mark Gurman reported in his Power On newsletter.

According to Gurman, the company plans to add official support for Apple Intelligence in China in upcoming interim versions of iOS, as well as expand Siri’s ability to work with service apps. We’re talking about iOS 26.1 and iOS 26.2 updates.

Apple Intelligence support and new scripts for Siri

The release of Apple Intelligence in China was an expected move and comes as no surprise. More interesting is the information about Siri»s «improved control of Siri» in service apps. Gurman didn’t provide details on which specific programs will get the updates.

According to analysts, the list could include the Apple TV app. That’s due to rumors of a new Apple TV 4K set-top box with Apple Intelligence support coming soon. The device is expected to be announced in October.

In addition, enhanced Siri features may be coming to Apple Music and Apple Fitness as part of the tvOS 26.1 update.

Full Siri update — in 2026

A radical redesign of Siri with artificial intelligence elements remains in Apple’s plans for early 2026. As Gurman notes, the company is unlikely to show these features in the marketing campaign for the new Apple TV 4K set-top box.

Siri is not likely to be featured in the new Apple TV 4K set-top box’s marketing campaign.

Nevertheless, incremental improvements to Siri in iOS 26 and beyond allow Apple to maintain user interest and smooth the wait until the global update is released.
