Microsoft will speed up the launch and operation of Teams through a new separate process

It will be named ms-teams_modulehost.exe and will run as a child process of the main client ms-teams.exe. “We are improving the performance and startup time of call features in the desktop version of Microsoft Teams for Windows. To do this, we introduce a new child process ms-teams_modulehost.exe that will handle the call stack separately from the main process. This optimizes resource usage and improves the quality of calls and meetings.” In Windows Task Manager, the new module will appear inside the Teams branch of the main process. It will only be responsible for call functions and will reduce the load on the main client. The new mechanism is scheduled to launch in early January 2026, with full rollout by the end of January. Microsoft emphasizes that the timeline may move slightly if fixes to previous builds are needed. The update requires no action from users: once it’s installed, Teams should launch faster and run smoother without additional customizations. The company also says the new process won’t affect familiar work scenarios.
