With the release of iOS 18.4, Apple has extended the Visual Intelligence feature to new iPhone models, making it available beyond the flagship iPhone 16 lineup. Previously, the technology was only used on devices with a camera control button, but it’s now available on other models, including the iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, and 16e.

Visual Intelligence is an artificial intelligence-based feature that uses the iPhone’s camera to recognize objects and get real-time information. You can use it to find out restaurant details, translate or sound out text, identify a plant or animal, and perform other tasks with the camera, for example.

The feature can be added to Action Button, Lock Screen or Control Panel, from where it can be easily controlled.

iOS 18.3 has already added a number of new features to Visual Intelligence, and the expanded support in iOS 18.4 indicates that Apple is just beginning to bring this technology to its devices.

And it’s clear that Apple is just beginning to incorporate it into its devices.

According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple plans to make Visual Intelligence a key part of its other products – including future versions of AirPods with cameras and new Apple Watch models also equipped with cameras. This will enhance the ability to analyze the environment and provide real-time context using AI.

The company also intends to move Visual Intelligence’s work to its own AI models, moving away from its reliance on OpenAI and Google solutions.

So Apple’s strategy has two main focuses: gradually adding new features to Visual Intelligence and expanding the list of devices where the technology will be used. In the long term, Visual Intelligence could become an integral part of the Apple ecosystem.
