Google has removed Assistant settings from its Android app
By ForGeeks Android users have started to notice the disappearance of access to Google Assistant settings directly from Google’s main app, one of the first steps toward phasing out the mobile version of Assistant this year.
The Google app no longer has an Assistant settings section
If you go into the latest version of the Google app (as of 16.12) and open the profile menu in the top-right corner, you’ll no longer see the familiar “Google Assistant” option in the settings section. Previously, it led you to an extensive list of settings through which you could customize nearly every aspect of the voice assistant.
At the end of the day, you’ll be able to use the Google Assistant settings to customize the voice assistant.
The missing settings included features like adjusting sensitivity to the phrase “Okay, Google,” Assistant voice selection, account management, Face Match, smart home device management, language settings, calendar integration, music, news, podcasts, notifications, offline speech recognition, personalized responses, notes and lists, nickname, parental restriction controls, search results, tasks, routes, videos, weather, name voicing, and more. In fact – everything that went into the day-to-day operation of Google Assistant.
Where to find Google Assistant settings now
Despite growing integration with the Gemini AI platform, many users still need access to classic Assistant features – for example, to control a smart home. But now the path to them has changed.
- Go to the Google Home
- Open Settings
- Then select Home Features > Google Assistant > Manage all Assistant settings

What’s going on with Gemini settings?”
Some users are reporting that they’re also missing the “Gemini” option in the Google app’s settings menu. As a reminder, although Gemini is powered by the Google app, the settings page itself is primarily for managing search settings, not the new AI assistant.
The settings page itself is designed to manage search options, not the new AI assistant.
So the company is gradually moving users away from the familiar Google Assistant mobile interface in favor of a newer Gemini-based ecosystem. But it still retains the ability to get to the features you need, albeit in a more confusing way.
