Galaxy Z Flip 6 became the first with One UI 8.0 and Android 16 – leaked firmware

Samsung is wasting no time: evidence has surfaced online that the company has begun internal testing of the One UI 8.0 firmware built on Android 16. The first device to see the new update is the yet-to-be-announced Galaxy Z Flip 6.

The new version of One UI is spotted in action – and it’s an early build

On the X platform (formerly Twitter), a user under the nickname @Alfaturk16 posted a screenshot and a short video showing that the international version of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 for the Indian market has received firmware number F741BXXU2CYD7. The update weighs 3.16GB and includes the April 2025 security patch.

Although the changelist doesn’t reveal any flashy new features yet, this is likely a preview build of One UI 8.0 intended for internal testing among Samsung developers. Nevertheless, the fact that the update is appearing on the device suggests that the company is serious about not delaying the release as it did with the previous version.

The One UI 8.0 build is most likely a pre-release build intended for internal testing among Samsung developers.

Samsung wants to rehabilitate itself after One UI 7.0 delay

Remember, One UI 7.0, based on Android 15, was released for Galaxy smartphones much later than expected. Users and developers didn’t hide their disappointment, and Samsung seems to have drawn conclusions. This time, the company intends to stick to the schedule and launch One UI 8.0 on time – and the first leaks confirm it.

Samsung’s servers have been fixing Android 16 builds for various models for weeks now, with devices running the new OS showing up in benchmark databases. Until today, the update hadn’t been demonstrated «live» on any smartphone. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 has become the first exception.

When to expect the final version of One UI 8.0

The stable version of One UI 8.0 will likely be unveiled at the same time as the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, which are expected to premiere in July 2025. These are the flagships that usually kick off the rollout of major updates from Samsung.

After that, the update will gradually start coming to earlier models. If there are no delays, the One UI 8.0 mass release could begin as soon as three months after the July announcement.

What exactly the new shell will offer is still unknown – Samsung is keeping the details under wraps. But given the scale of Android 16 and the interest in new foldable models, we can expect major changes in both interface design and functionality.
