Apple plans to announce iOS 26 at WWDC in June

Apple is likely to move to a new naming scheme for its operating systems, starting with iOS 26. According to Bloomberg, the company will unveil iOS 26 at its WWDC 2025 conference in June.
iOS 26 will replace iOS 19: what’s known
Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman reported that Apple is going to tie operating system version numbers to calendar years, much like automakers do. For example, iOS 26 will be the current version for 2026, even though it officially comes out in September 2025. This system will unify the numbering of all Apple platforms.
Gurman’s information was confirmed by AppleInsider’s Marko Zivkovic. In his post on X, he wrote:
“I can independently confirm that version number ’26’ branding does exist.”
He said Apple is already testing this scheme: some internal macOS builds are still labeled as macOS 16, but others are already labeled as macOS 26.
