Android 16 could get Dynamic Island-style notifications like Apple’s

Apple, Google and Samsung regularly borrow interface design ideas from each other. After Samsung introduced notification animations from the front camera area on the Galaxy S10, Apple developed the Dynamic Island notification feature in iPhone 14. Now Google may integrate a similar notification feature in Android 16.
And now, Google is looking to integrate a similar notification feature in Android 16.
Rich Ongoing Notifications feature in Android 16
Google is constantly striving to improve notifications in Android, making them simpler, less distracting, and more functional. In Android 16, the company may introduce Rich Ongoing Notifications, similar to Apple’s Dynamic Island. According to Android Authority, Google is testing a new API for these notifications in the latest Android 15 QPR1 Beta 3 beta, allowing apps to display special icons in the status bar. These icons will be able to contain the app’s icon, text, time, and a custom background.
Additionally, these icons will be able to contain an app icon, text, time, and a custom background.

Although the API isn’t yet available for third-party apps, Android expert Mishaal Rahman has created layouts for Rich Ongoing Notifications via the command line. For example, a cab app would be able to show the arrival time of the car, while an airline would be able to show the countdown to boarding. Clock can also show an active timer or the time until the next alarm.

Similar features in One UI 7.0
Samsung has already implemented a similar system in One UI 7.0, where active notifications are displayed as a “pill” in the status bar, such as for calls or timers. If Google adds Rich Ongoing Notifications to Android 16 and opens it up to third-party developers, the feature will greatly expand the Android experience. Many users have long been waiting for a similar style of notifications with animations like the iPhone 14, and their wishes could come true as soon as next year.
