Huawei unveiled the Nova 15 Pro and Nova 15 Ultra smartphones with a focus on cameras and AI

Huawei has officially unveiled the Nova 15 Pro and Nova 15 Ultra smartphones in China. The new products are positioned as advanced mid-range devices with a focus on mobile photography, artificial intelligence, and the HarmonyOS ecosystem.

The two models feature a 6.84-inch flat OLED display with a resolution of 2856×1320 pixels. The screen supports displaying 10.7 billion colors, a wide P3 color gamut, and an adaptive LTPO refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz. Peak brightness reaches 4000 nits. The Ultra version additionally features 2160Hz PWM dimming, reinforced Kunlun glass with anti-reflective coating, and enhanced vision protection and AI HDR.

The Nova 15 Pro and Nova 15 Ultra are powered by the company’s proprietary Kirin 9010S processor running HarmonyOS 6. Huawei claims an 18% increase in performance over the previous generation, while system-level optimization ensures smoother UI performance and stable FPS in games.

The two models utilize the Dual Red Maple Imaging camera system. The front camera is — a 50MP portrait sensor with 4K video support and AIS stabilization, complemented by a Red Maple multispectral sensor.

The Nova 15 Pro and Nova 15 Ultra both feature a dual Red Maple imaging system.

The main differences lie in the rear cameras. The Nova 15 Ultra gets three 50-megapixel RYYB sensors: a f/1.4-f/4.0 variable aperture main module with optical stabilization, a periscope telephoto lens with 3.7x optical zoom and up to 100x digital zoom, and an ultra-wide-angle macro camera. The system is complemented by a 1.5-megapixel Red Maple color sensor.The Nova 15 Pro lacks a periscope: instead, it has a 12-megapixel telephoto portrait lens and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide macro camera, and the main module doesn’t have a variable aperture.

The two smartphones feature a 6,500mAh silicon-carbon battery and support Huawei SuperCharge Turbo 100W wired fast charging. The Ultra version additionally supports 50W wireless charging and 7.5W reverse wireless charging.

The Nova 15 Ultra offers advanced features like dual satellite connectivity (Beidou imaging and Tiantong voice), IP68 and IP69 water and dust protection, Audio Vivid certified stereo speakers, enhanced call noise cancellation, NearLink digital car key support, and lossless audio streaming at up to 4.6 Mbps. The Nova 15 Pro is limited to IP65 protection, and does not support wireless charging or satellite voice.

Prices in China are as follows:Nova 15 Pro — from 3,499 yuan (about $490) for the 256GB version. The Kunlun glass variant costs 3,599 yuan, and the 512GB version — 3,899 yuan.Nova 15 Ultra starts at 4,199 yuan for the 256GB version with Kunlun glass. The 512GB model costs 4,499 yuan, and the top-of-the-line 1TB configuration with Kunlun basalt reinforced glass — 4,999 yuan.

The two new products have already gone on sale in China and are available in four colors: bright green, elegant purple, white, and black.
