Apple delays iPhone Air 2 release due to low sales of the first model
Apple has postponed the launch of the next-generation iPhone Air, which was previously expected next September along with the iPhone Fold, iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Now, according to The Information, the device’s release has been delayed, and the reason is due to weak sales of the original iPhone Air model.
Sources say that Apple has significantly reduced iPhone Air orders from its suppliers, and production at Foxconn factories will come to a complete halt by the end of this month. Luxshare stopped assembling the device back in October.
As a result, Apple once again faces a familiar problem — finding a «fourth» smartphone in the lineup that users will actually want to buy alongside the base model iPhone and the Pro and Pro Max versions.

Some analysts believe that this role could be taken over by the first foldable iPhone Fold in 2026, but the Air series seems to be repeating the fate of the company’s previous failed experiments. As a reminder, Apple has previously tried to expand the lineup with compact mini and larger Plus models, but both efforts failed to meet sales expectations.
If the iPhone Air 2 project isn’t finally shut down after all, it will probably be announced in spring 2027 at the same time as the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e. According to early rumors, the device will get a second main camera — an element that was conspicuously missing from the original Air.
