Nürburgring record: YangWang U9 Xtreme passed the track in less than 7 minutes

BYD’s YangWang U9 Xtreme electric hypercar set a new record at the Nürburgring in 6 minutes 59.157 seconds, becoming the first electric car to complete the Northern Loop in less than seven minutes.

BYD’s record at the Nürburgring

According to BYD, the record run took place on August 22, 2025. It was driven by German GT-class driver Moritz Kranz, who has driven the legendary track about 10,000 times in his career. The manufacturer has delayed publication of the results until official certification is complete and orders for the model have begun.

YangWang U9 Xtreme covered the distance in 6:59.157, improving the previous result of Xiaomi SU7 Ultra by about five seconds. Thus, the leadership among electric hypercars has passed to the Chinese automakers.

Hypercar Specifications

YangWang U9 Xtreme develops 3,000 hp thanks to four electric motors with a maximum speed of 30,000 rpm. The system operates at a voltage of 1,200V, providing an outstanding 1,217 hp per ton of weight.

To achieve the result, engineers upgraded the cooling system and installed titanium-ceramic alloy brakes with carbon fiber. The car was fitted with Giti tires specifically designed for the record run.

Second YangWang record

Earlier, in September, the same hypercar set a world speed record for production cars at 496.22 km/h, beating the gasoline Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+. However, production of the model is limited to 30 copies, so the car can be considered a production car only conditionally.

The YangWang U9 Xtreme is not only a demonstration of BYD’s technological strength, but also an important tool for BYD to promote the brand outside of China, where the company faces increased competition in the domestic market.
