Apple is preparing digital key support for GM vehicles in the Wallet app

Apple has added support for a digital key feature for General Motors cars to its code base. This is reported by MacRumors, citing data found in the iOS backend. The update indicates that Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC owners will soon be able to unlock and start their cars via Apple Wallet. Apple has added support for the digital key feature for General Motors vehicles. “Car Key support for select General Motors vehicles may be coming to the Apple Wallet app soon,” according to the MacRumors publication. Code changes have also been noted for Rivian, Smart, and Voyah, signaling Apple’s expanded partnership with automakers. The rollout of the feature requires additional work on the part of the brands themselves, however, so the exact timeline for the launch remains unknown. According to the source, in addition to GM, the list of new partners includes Acura, Chery, Hongqi, Lucid, Porsche, Tata, and WEY. The Car Key feature lets you unlock and start your car using your iPhone or Apple Watch, and share digital keys with others via iMessage. For GM, support will cover Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC – specific models have not yet been named, but their appearance in Apple’s code hints at an imminent inclusion.
