Why new cars in Russia have gone up in price again

In September 2025, the weighted average cost of a new passenger car in Russia reached 3.34 million rubles – this is 4% higher than in August and 6% more than a year earlier. This was reported by Sergei Tselikov, director of the analytical agency Avtostat.
At the end of September, the average weighted cost of a new car in Russia reached 3.34 million rubles.
Why new cars have gone up in price
According to the expert, the price increase is caused by three main factors. First, with the onset of autumn, automakers revised price lists, cut discounts and reduced the size of “benefit” programs. Second, the share of sales of cars from the last model year, which traditionally cost less than cars produced in 2025, is declining.
The third factor is related to market structure: the number of registrations of cars imported through parallel channels has increased. In particular, sales of Toyota, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Mazda, Skoda and Volkswagen have increased. These brands are noticeably more expensive than the “Russian-Chinese majority,” which also influenced the average price, Tselikov noted.
Prices for used cars are falling
In the segment of used cars, the trend is the opposite – the average price fell by 1.5% and amounted to 1.14 million rubles in September. The analyst predicts that in October the growth in the cost of new cars will continue, while the used car market will stabilize.
It was reported earlier that the Moskvich plant raised prices for the Moskvich 3 crossover produced in 2025, which also reflects the general trend of new vehicles becoming more expensive.
