Apple will buy 8 million Samsung displays for the foldable iPhone

Apple continues to prepare its first foldable device and plans to launch mass production in the second half of 2026, according to supply chain data. Samsung Display will be the main supplier of the flexible OLED panels, with Foxconn handling assembly.
Production is scheduled for late Q3 to early Q4 2026
Analyst Guo Minchi (via Chosun Biz) claims that Apple expects to begin production of the foldable iPhone in late third or early fourth quarter of 2026. So far, Samsung Display is listed as the only display partner; no additional suppliers have been named.
Screen folding remains a major concern
The main technical problem is a visible crease at the crease. Apple is working with Samsung Display to try to completely eliminate crease before the device even launches. Crease has been an inevitable companion to flexible screens since the first Galaxy Fold was released in 2019, but Samsung has been gradually reducing its visibility. Apple’s goal is to make the crease disappear completely.
Volume plans: up to 8 million panels in the first year
Samsung Display is preparing capacity to produce 7-8 million foldable panels in time for the iPhone-Fold production launch. Apple is rumored to get the thinnest version of the flexible OLED – 19% thinner than the one used in the Galaxy Z Fold series.
