Google unveiled Wear OS 6 with a new design and improved autonomy

At Google’s I/O conference, the company officially announced Wear OS 6, a new version of its operating system for wearable devices. One of the key new features was the integration of the Material 3 Expressive visual language, which will soon appear in Android 16 as well. The first Developer Preview, exclusively for developers, was also unveiled.
10% longer battery life thanks to optimizations
Google claims that Wear OS 6 offers 10% longer battery life compared to the previous version, Wear OS 5. This increase is due to the platform’s optimizations. If this really proves true in practice, users will get a tangible bonus in everyday autonomy.
Material 3 Expressive: round screen, dynamic colors and new carousel layout
The Material 3 Expressive interface is designed with round displays in mind and supports the dynamic theming familiar from Android. The updated Tiles are more uniform and easy to read. A new three-layer tile structure has been introduced: header, main content, and bottom block for better visual organization in the carousel.
The new design adapts to larger screens, effectively utilizing the round form factor. List navigation has been improved – it’s smoother, and there’s a new animation that visualizes scrolling progress. Multimedia controls have also been tweaked, and dials can now display custom photos.

Wear OS 6 release date
Google has yet to give an exact release date for Wear OS 6, limiting itself to saying “later this year.”
