What we’re expecting: the new Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold
Samsung is set to unveil new Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 models at its Unpacked event, and there’s been no shortage of rumors leading up to the event. For starters, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is rumored to get a few updates, including a larger 3.4-inch display with a 720 x 748 resolution. Leaked images of the device confirm the size of the external display, which extends from the phone’s camera to its hinge. That’s a significant improvement over the 1.9-inch 260 x 512 resolution external display that the Z Flip 4 has.

In its unfolded form, the display is likely to remain the same 6.7-inch display found on the Z Flip 4. However, thanks to a new «water drop» style hinge that Samsung is working on, it can fold even flatter than its predecessor. Specs published by leaker SnoopyTech seem to support that claim, as they suggest that the Z Flip 5 will be 15.1mm wide when folded, compared to 15.9mm for the Z Flip 4.

Samsung is also expected to make some changes to the larger Z Fold lineup. The Z Fold 5 is expected to get a «water drop» hinge that will reduce the appearance of creases when unfolding. It’s also rumored to be thinner than the Z Fold 4, with a thickness of 13.4mm instead of 14.2mm.

The Fold 5 may also sport a 12MP telephoto lens, whereas the Fold 4 had a 10MP one. Other than that, we don’t expect any major changes to the Z Fold 5. The device will have the same 7.6-inch internal display and 6.2-inch external display as its predecessor, as well as three color options, including blue, cream, and black.
