Google Photos has launched “year-end totals,” a feature similar to Spotify Wrapped

Since its launch in 2015, Google Photos has established itself as one of the leading photo sharing and backup services. The service’s initial popularity came from its free unlimited storage for photos and videos, and after that privilege disappeared, Google Photos continues to be a favorite service for many users. However, every year it becomes more and more difficult to find the right moments among hundreds or thousands of photos. In response to this problem, Google has introduced a new feature that will create an overview of your photos and videos taken in the year 2024.

New title: Memories Becomes Moments
One of the key features of Google Photos is Memories (soon to be renamed Moments). The tool uses artificial intelligence to scan your gallery and automatically compile similar photos and videos into collections that appear at the top of the Photos tab. These automatically generated collections set Google Photos apart from other Android apps that simply show photos in chronological order and require you to create your own albums.
It’s a great way to organize your photos and videos.
New Collections for 2024
Since the introduction of the Memories feature, Google has been experimenting with various auto-created collections. Recently, user Kutlay Kızıl reported that his Google Photos app had new Memories collections. The 2024-themed collections are named “Longest streak 2024,” “Year in smiles 2024,” and “Your top faces 2024.”

One of the memories we were able to see summarized the “vibe” of photos taken by this user this year. A total of five collections related to the 2024 review feature were found. Here’s what they include:
- .
- Your 2024 «vibe»: reveals your top 3 personalities. “What do your photos say about you in 2024? Your vibes were like this…”
- The Year in Color: showcases your color palette for the year. “What a colorful year! Your most common colors of the year…”
- Your top faces: highlights 2024’s “star-studded lineup”. “2024 was the year of the star-studded lineup! Your top faces were…”
- The Year of Smiles: summarizes the number of smiles and who you smiled most often with. “You caught X number of smiles this year. But you smiled the most with…”
- Longest Series: Emphasizes the longest series of photos taken in a year. “How many days in a row did you take a photo? Your longest series in 2024: X days.”

How to Get Those Memories
To get a 2024 review, you’ll need to turn on Face Groups and take enough photos throughout the year. Google also says you can participate in the Gemini Enhanced Experience program (by invitation only for now). This version of Recap will be available to adult users in the US who have an invitation to Gemini-enhanced memories and have Face Groups and suggested locations enabled.

Competition with other services
Since December is upon us, it’s no surprise that Google is testing such a feature in the Google Photos app. This is the time of year when all online services release their “Wrapped” versions, and Google seems to have finally caught up with the trend. This feature makes a lot of sense for a service like Google Photos, and it’s surprising that it hasn’t come out sooner.
If you’ve already seen these collections in your Google Photos app, post about it in the comments below!”
