Apple’s record shipments and the impact of the iPhone 16
Canalys analyst Le Xuan Chiu said the increase in iPhone shipments in the third quarter was due to optimized sales channels and logistics. Following the announcements at WWDC of Apple Intelligence features, many users are switching from the outdated iPhone 12 and 13 models to get access to new technologies. Additional iPhone production in India has also played a significant role by shortening delivery times and driving demand in the local market through competitive pricing.

Chiu also noted that additional production of previous iPhone models, such as the iPhone 13 and iPhone 15, in India supported growth in shipments through carriers in the U.S. and Europe. This has helped Apple regain some market share in the mid-price segment and increased demand for device upgrades. However, the analyst warns that geopolitical issues and a possible delay in the rollout of Apple Intelligence could have a negative impact on the company’s results in the fourth quarter and into 2025.
Xiaomi, Oppo and vivo in the top three
China’s Xiaomi remains in third place behind Samsung and Apple, shipping 42.8 million smartphones in July-September, up 3% year-on-year. Xiaomi’s market share remained at 14%.

Oppo came next with 28.6 million devices, up 8% from the third quarter of last year. This growth allowed the company to maintain a 9% share. The most significant growth in the top five was demonstrated by vivo. With 27.2 million smartphones shipped, 24% more than last year, it increased its market share from 7% to 9%.
