You can now send encrypted messages on Twitter

Twitter announced that users will now be able to send each other encrypted messages. This will allow subscribers to communicate without the platform storing their messages. They will only be available on the user’s device.
It’s important that this feature will only be available to those with a Twitter Blue account. Both sender and recipient must be paying followers or the feature will not be available for their conversation.

For now, the feature is only available in «private messages» but in the future, the social network will expand this functionality to group chats, too.
“We use a combination of strong cryptographic schemes to encrypt each individual message, link, and conversation response before it’s sent from the device. They remain encrypted while stored on Twitter. When messages reach the recipient, they are decrypted,” the company says.
