Volga revival: production to start in spring 2026

The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov, has announced a new date for the start of production of cars of the legendary brand «Volga» — spring 2026.
History of the project’s revival
The plans to bring back the «Volga» brand were first announced in 2022. Initially, the serial launch was scheduled for 2024, but the project ran into difficulties.
In May 2024, three new models of the «Volga» were publicly displayed. The exhibits were almost identical to cars from Chinese company Changan — the Raeton Plus, X5 Plus and Uni-Z. All were equipped with a 188-hp gasoline engine and a seven-speed «automatic».
In 2025, however, the project came to a halt: Changan pulled out of the partnership. In the fall of the same year, rumors of Geely’s possible participation surfaced, but there was no official confirmation.

New launch date
After postponing dates and disruptions, a new benchmark has now been set: production of the «Volga» cars is due to start in the spring of 2026.
