TCL unveiled Note A1 tablet with NxtPaper screen and stylus support

TCL has announced the Note A1 tablet for international markets. The new product is aimed at users who want a comfortable reading and writing experience reminiscent of working with paper, but without the use of E Ink screens. Instead, the device features TCL’s proprietary NxtPaper display, which supports color images and high refresh rates.

TCL Note A1 gets an 11.5-inch anti-glare LCD display capable of displaying 16.7 million colors. The NxtPaper technology used reduces blue light, eliminates flicker and applies a matte finish that creates a paper-like surface effect. This reduces eye strain while maintaining the responsiveness and versatility of an LCD screen.

The tablet supports dual-tip stylus input with a built-in «eraser». Input latency is minimal, making the device handy for handwriting, taking notes, sketching and drawing. Note A1 can convert handwritten text to digital text and supports AI features including note summarization, voice transcription and smart search.

T TCL has equipped the tablet with an array of eight microphones for high-quality audio recording, which will be useful for meetings and video calls. Speech-to-text support lets you create transcripts and notes. Synchronization with cloud services like Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive is also available.

The dimensions of the device are 260.1 × 196.5 × 5.5 mm, weighing — 500 grams. Features include a fingerprint scanner, support for wireless screen streaming and a magnetic pogo pin connector for connecting a keyboard. The design features a thickened bezel on one side for easy one-handed use, a round front button, and a single camera on the back.

TCL has not yet revealed full hardware specs, including processor, RAM and internal memory. The tablet is expected to run Android and support multitasking features such as split-screen mode.

TCL Note A1 will go on sale via a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, with a starting price of $419.
